A number of unusual ground states have been inferred in strongly correlated electron systems. In this talk, I will review what novel spectroscopic techniques might tell us about such states. To be covered are photoemission dichroism, x-ray dichroism, resonant diffraction, two particle coincidence, and various pump-probe techniques, with an emphasis on cuprate and related strongly correlated materials.
