The Annual National Synchrotron Light Source ll (NSLS-ll) and Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) Users' Meeting provides a venue for scientists from diverse disciplines who will use the NSLS-ll and CFN facilities to share their work and discuss future directions for their research. New results and advances in experimental capabilities in synchrotron radiation and nanoscale science research will be highlighted.
This year, the theme of our meeting is “Illuminating the Future” as we focus on the exciting new prospects of NSLS-ll, and the continuing excellence of CFN. The program includes invited talks, workshops, a poster session, and exhibits highlighting new technology and instrumentation - all offering opportunities to learn about the latest developments in synchrotron and nanoscience experimentation that can impact your own research.

On Monday and Wednesday, scientific workshops on topics proposed and organized by members of the NSLS-II and CFN user communities will be held.
The plenary session will be held on Tuesday, May 24. The key note speaker will be Chi-Chang Kao, Director of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, along with invited speakers, Arthur Nozik, Senior Research Fellow Emeritus of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Department of Chemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and Henry Chapman, Division Director, Coherent Imaging Team, Center for Free-Electron Laser Science, DESY and Professor of Physics at the University of Hamburg. The session will also include presentations from the Lead Beamline Scientists for the five newest NSLS-ll operating beamlines, with updates on planned capabilities and early science commissioning results.
During the plenary session, there will be updates from the U.S. Department of Energy, BNL, NSLS-II, and the CFN.
The schedule on Tuesday ends with the annual meeting banquet, which provides an opportunity to carry on the discussion of scientific communication in a less formal setting (and to have some fun!).
The Users' Executive Committees (UECs), the representative bodies of both Associations, cordially invite all to attend the plenary sessions on Tuesday, May 24, free of charge, and all are warmly invited to register for the workshops and other events.
2016-2018 UEC Membership Election:
While registering, take the opportunity to vote for the new membership of the UEC. Many great candidates have graciously allowed themselves to be nominated and deserve your time to vote. Voting will also be open at the annual meeting up until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 24. However, we encourage you to vote early: http://www.nslsuec.org/elections/member.aspx.
NSLS-Il UEC Charter Vote:
In addition to the regular vote for 6 new members of the NSLS-II UEC, this year we have two simple propositions for you to vote on. Cast your vote here!
Student Participation in the 2016 NSLS-ll and CFN Users' Meeting:
The NSLS-II Users' Executive Committee encourages student participation in the annual NSLS-ll/CFN Users' Meeting. Students can be nominated for awards to cover their registration fees as described on the meeting website. Nominations must be received no later than April 15, 2016. Submit you nomination here!
NSLS-ll Community Service Award:
We are accepting nominations for the NSLS-ll Community Service Award. For more information and to submit your nominee's name visit the NSLS-ll Community Service Award nominations page no later than May, 6, 2016.

The Meeting is hosted and sponsored by the National Synchrotron Light Source ll Users’ Association, the Center for Functional Nanomaterials Users' Association, and external organizations representing the users of the NSLS-ll and CFN facilities.
This joint meeting and associated workshops are supported by registration fees paid by the participants. Social events, lunches, and coffee breaks are provided to registered attendees primarily by our exhibitors and sponsors, and in part by NSLS-ll and CFN's Brookhaven Science Associates' funding. The Users' Meeting Planning Committee consists of users and staff of NSLS-ll and CFN. Administrative support for the meeting is provided by BNL's National Synchrotron Light Source ll and the Center for Functional Nanomaterials.
